Davis Consulting provides structural engineering design and site review services for all kinds of buildings, including houses. We work for homeowners ( yes, do-it yourselfers are welcome ! ), contractors, architects, realtors and property managers. Davis Consulting Specializes in Small Projects. Most projects are for older buildings of varying construction. We have seen it all, so don't be shy about calling us to discuss your project. "...When you call our firm, you will speak to someone that is interested in your small project..." If you are thinking about removing a wall, creating a new opening in a doorway, or underpinning a foundation wall, we can provide you with a Site Consultation and then prepare building permit drawings for your project. Structural changes and significant repairs to a building require a building permit. We can provide all required design services for buildings which fall under Part 4 and Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code, and many people come to us for help when they need a structural engineer on a house project or when their project has run into difficulties. We provide services throughout Canada, but primarily in Ontario and Alberta. We carry $1.0M of errors and omissions insurance to protect our clients. Many of Davis' projects are small residential structural engineering projects carried out for contractors and homeowners. However we regularly undertake much larger structural engineering design projects for major Architectural and Engineering firms in the Toronto Area. We have extensive knowledge of Residential Housing and Small Building Design - frankly, we have done it all when it comes to wood framed houses, and this specialty knowledge gives us an advantage over larger structural consulting firms that do not regularly provide design services for wood frame houses. In addition to providing structural engineering design services, we also provide complete building permit plan services for small projects which do not require the services of an architect. Please note that many residential design projects can be carried out "site unseen". We regularly undertake structural design projects which are more than 1000km remote from our office since engineers do not always need to visit a site in order to design the structure of a building. Most house projects are inspected by a local municipal building inspector and we do not have to inspect firsthand. Our office utilizes industry standard CAD software such as AutoCAD and SoftPlan. We are connected to the Internet via high speed connection, to facilitate the transfer of large electronic CAD files over the Internet, and all staff have e-mail equipped computer workstations to communicate directly with you.
